Meet Bona Fide

Bona Fide Construction and Renovation opened their doors in Athens GA in 2001.  It began with 2 carpenters who had experience in the field of commercial and residential historical renovations.

Over the years, Bona Fide Construction and Renovation has expanded our staff to include

  • 3 crews of carpenters who handle tasks from simple repairs to complex framing and interior trim
  • An excavation crew handling rough and finish grading, footings, basements and slabs
  • A design team specializing in remodeling and additions and
  • A contracting team capable of leveraging resources and subcontractors across dozens of simultaneous commercial and residential projects throughout Northeast Georgia

Our entire team is made up of local Athenians who are committed to preserving the individuality and integrity of our neighborhoods. We have years of experience and a strong working knowledge of all construction industry facets.

David Daniel, Owner, M.A. University of Georgia, was born in and raised around Athens, has experienced first hand the economic and social decline and subsequent revitalization of its urban and downtown districts, and has participated in the latter with the establishment of Bona Fide Construction and Renovation, LLC,  in the summer of 2001 with the commercial historic renovation of the Raymond James/Carson Advisory house at 336 Hill Street.   Bona Fide has completed  multiple historic renovation projects in the Cobbham Historic District, the Milledge Avenue Historic District,  the Hancock Corridor Historic District, Five Points, and other parts of Athens, as well as other parts of Northeast Georgia.  These projects have included both residential and commercial renovations, sensitive additions and remodeling, and in-fill, traditional new construction.  We have been recognized as the participating contractor in the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation Historic Preservation Award for 336 Hill Street, 584 N. Milledge Avenue (Dondero’s), and 690 W. Hancock Ave (Private Residence) and noted for our contributions to the general well-being of the citizens of Athens through projects as varied as participation in Hands on Athens and sponsorship of classical music concerts.  David has personally renovated two historic homes, 629 Cobb Street and 662 Milledge Circle, the latter of which is his current residence with his wife, Melony Wilson-Daniel, and their 3 children, Eliot, O’Connor, and Becket.

John Young graduated from McCallie high school in 2001 where he discovered his love for the outdoors as an outdoor student leader. In seeking to understand how he and the Environment affect his relationship with others, he graduated from Covenant College with a BA in Psychology. Since then he has sought to build that knowledge of society and nature and the relationship between them by pursuing work in various fields of construction and land management. He has been with Bona Fide for 3 years with intermittent breaks to further his education by traveling internationally to work over sees. He spent 6 months in Uganda, Africa teaching agriculture, 2 months in Brussels, Belgium teaching children, and 3 months in Tokyo, Japan as a mountain guide on Mount Fuji. His interests and responsibilities at Bona Fide include construction, with special focus on carpentry with reclaimed wood, and project managing “Green” building projects.

Marci Nessing was born in Connecticut, but moved to Peachtree City, Georgia in 1996. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 2007 with a Bachelor’s in Speech Communication. After a year of working for a large cooperation in Atlanta, she discovered Athens, and its sense of community, had become more of a home to her. Over the past few years her position at Bona Fide has evolved from bookkeeper and office manager to a client liaison and marketing role. Marci works with each homeowner to facilitate the building process. She creates different design option, helps select materials, and acts as a general soundboard for our clients. She can be spotted at BNI meetings, Chamber of Commerce events, and AAHBA gatherings. When not at work, most of her time is spent with family and friends or running all over Athens in preparation for an upcoming marathon.
